The Future of Shopping: Talking Shelves! No Check-Out Lines! Virtual Reality!
The Atlantic -Meeting the customer's needs is arguably the first rule of running a successful retail business, and with the adoption of today's smartphones and various mobile technologies, retailers have an opportunity to serve their customers like never before. However, instead of embracing their digital destiny, many well-known stores are instead losing customers to tech-savvy online retailers such as Amazon.com. Often, in-store shoppers aren't even waiting until they get home to go online and shop elsewhere--they're doing it from their cell phones, right there in the store. A recent study published by the consumer electronics and shopping Web site Retrevo found that 43 percent of smartphone-toting shoppers have downloaded a retailer's app but that only 14 percent of these shoppers have actually used it to help purchase an item. Oxford BioMedica and Mayo Clinic Partner to Develop Gene Therapy for Glaucoma
Genetic Engineering & Biotechnology News - Oxford BioMedica and the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, have teamed up on an R&D collaboration that aims to develop a gene therapy for treating chronic glaucoma. The partners will carry out preclinical work to test the feasibility of using a therapeutic based on Oxford BioMedica’s LentiVector® gene delivery system expressing a COX-2 gene and a PGF-2alpha receptor gene, for use in reducing intraocular pressure. The collaboration builds on research by Mayo Clinic scientists that has demonstrated initial proof-of-concept for the gene therapy approach. The U.K. firm in addition has an option to exclusively license the May Clinic’s glaucoma technology in the U.S., on completion of preclinical studies. Myomo Develops Movement Assisting Robot for Patients Recovering from Stroke
Robotics.com - Able Place Physical Therapy is planning to host a media availability event on 28 October in order to increase the awareness of the latest available technology in stroke treatment as part of the World Stroke Day celebrations. During this event they are planning to demonstrate the abilities of the movement assisting robot arm from, Myomo which will be demostrated by physical therapists at Able on the patients.
