Why Universite du Quebec a Montreal (UQAM) Selected Animazoo's New IGS-180 for Ground Breaking $.1.5 Million Research Project
Animazoo - While optical systems will probably remain the gold standard for motion studies conducted in controlled laboratory environments, recent tests done by the team at the University of Quebec and Montreal led by Dr. Christian Duval and Patrick Boissy Ph.D means that research of human motion in natural environments outside of the laboratory is now possible using Animazoo's new IGS-180 inertial motion capture system. The IGS-180 was selected by the UQAM team for research projects on mobility and aging funded through a grant of $.1.5 million from the Canadian Institute of Health Research. A Randomized, Controlled Trial of Virtual Reality-Graded Exposure Therapy for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder in Active Duty Service Members with Combat-Related Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
PubMed.gov - Virtual reality (VR)-based therapy has emerged as a potentially useful means to treat post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), but randomized studies have been lacking for Service Members from Iraq or Afghanistan. This study documents a small, randomized, controlled trial of VR-graded exposure therapy (VR-GET) versus treatment as usual (TAU) for PTSD in Active Duty military personnel with combat-related PTSD. Success was gauged according to whether treatment resulted in a 30 percent or greater improvement in the PTSD symptom severity as assessed by the Clinician Administered PTSD Scale (CAPS) after 10 weeks of treatment. Investment in Innovation: Lessons Learned from China
CyberPsychology, Behavior, & Social Networking – President Obama was right to focus on innovation and job creation in his January 2011 State of the Union speech. There is a need to create and fill new jobs in an increasingly competitive global marketplace, and investments in innovation will enable businesses using virtual reality and other healthcare technology to be part of a new, much-needed job creation engine. If U.S. government funding for innovation and education does not increase, China may eclipse the United States in research and development funding within the next 20 years.
