Funding Opportunity: DARPA Healing Heroes
The DoD is committed to providing the best medical care and outreach programs to all Service members, (Active Duty, National Guard, Reserves, and Veterans) and their families. At present, many Service members suffer clinical levels of major depressive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and/or the effects of traumatic brain injury (TBI). Many more suffer at subclinical levels. Challenges remain to connect those in need with world-class medical and psychological health services and to destigmatize the psychological health process. Online resources and activities, interactive media, and social networking have great potential to supplement and enhance traditional healthcare options and encourage personnel to seek treatment from trained providers. In addition to the obvious health and well-being benefits, online resources, if properly designed and employed, can increase quality of care and also result in greater efficiencies in treatment reflected in faster delivery of care, cost savings and increased retention of active duty personnel.
