SUMMARY:1st INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON PSYCHOTECHNOLOGY (ICOP)
DESCRIPTION:Questioning the Role of Psychotechnology in facing social
and humanities issues  in Global context\n Jakarta, September, 1-2,
2014\n \nThe rapid development of the human sciences, especially psyc
hology often forgets to constantly question, “What is good for human
s?” The implications of this are (1) the allegation that the social
and human sciences have “is” even “off” of the human realities
because fun is in the “ivory tower” playing with its own basic sc
ience, (2) some form of applied psychology heeds ethical rules, and (3
) the performance of human-related profession more “technological”
, in the sense of being more pragmatic, mechanistic, and materialistic
.\nThis scientific conference attempts to revive an effort to answer o
ne of the oldest questions (yet one that is becoming increasingly rele
vant in this age) who has been enunciated by philosophers: What is rea
lly good for humans? Psychology with its paradigms and its orientation
s, in fact, aims at bringing happiness to human beings. The Department
of Psychology, University of Bina Nusantara, view that these objectiv
es can be achieved in concrete terms through ” a psychotechnology”
.\nThe psychotechnology term was  proposed by Coleman R. Griffith in
1928. According to Griffith, “it is difficult to think of human bein
gs who simply are; we almost always think of them as for better or for
worse, and this means either ethics or psychotechology”. Psychotech
nology is the amelioration of applied psychology (Ralph H. Gundlach, 1
935).  Psychologytechnology is a specialization in psychology which d
eals with the analysis and management of psychological reality and pri
nciples to accommodate needs and problem solving in our personal and p
rofessional daily life. Psychotechnology is a more advanced form of ap
plied psychology in clinical, medical, social, educational, and organi
zational fields. It is expected (in certain facets) to produce tangibl
e tools to improve human performance.\nASEAN citizens with all the str
ength of the economic, social, and demographic will occupy an importan
t position in the geopolitical world. Therefore, the psychological nee
d to contribute to finding and developing a sustainable manner “typi
cal ASEAN citizen’s psychotechnology “.\nSince 1970, Miller has be
en put forward 11 principles psychotechnology that are holistic and we
ll as a challenge of psychotechnology itself, namely:\n\nValid psychot
echology should have priority over\nIntelligible psychotechnology shou
ld have priority over unintelligible\nReliable psychotechnology should
have priority over unreliable\nSocially relevant psychotechology shou
ld have priority over irrelevant\nSafe psychotechnology should have pr
iority over dangerous\nPsychotechnology for which accountability can b
e assigned should have priority over that for which it cannot\nPsychot
echnology that obtains the consent of the affected individuals should
have priority over that which does not\nPsychotechnology that can avoi
d deception should have priority over that which cannot\nPsychotechnol
ogy that respects individuality should have priority over that which d
oes not\nAvailable (accessible) psychotechnology should have priority
over unavailable\nDistributable psychotechology should have priority o
ver nondistributable\n\n \nWe invite psychologists, academics and res
earchers from all fields and backgrounds to submit an exposition about
psychology-driven technology, basic psychological research with poten
tial of becoming tangible technology, and assessment of technology bas
ed on the 11 key points of ethical psychotechnology.\n\n\n\nFor more i
